The Rants Network Ltd — ArtRants. Last updated: June 2026. Maintained in compliance with the UK Online Safety Act 2023.

Overview

ArtRants is operated by The Rants Network Ltd. We take complaints seriously and are committed to a fair, transparent, and timely process. This document sets out what you can complain about, how to do so, and what happens next.

What You Can Complain About

We can investigate and act on complaints in the following categories:

Content violations

  • Content that violates our Community Guidelines, including personal attacks, harassment, hate speech, or content targeting a specific individual
  • Illegal content under UK law, including content that incites violence, is defamatory, or constitutes criminal harassment
  • Content that is harmful to children — any content that sexualises, exploits, or is otherwise harmful to minors
  • Privacy violations — content that discloses private information about an individual without their consent
  • Impersonation — accounts misrepresenting themselves as another real person or organisation

Account and moderation decisions

  • Removal or restriction of your content that you believe was incorrect
  • Suspension or restriction of your account that you believe was incorrect

What we cannot investigate

We cannot investigate complaints about content you simply disagree with, criticism of artworks or artists, or opinions expressed in rants — even strongly-worded ones. Disagreement with another member's view is not a violation of our Community Guidelines.

How to Make a Complaint

Option 1 — Report button (fastest)

Every rant and comment on ArtRants has a Report button. Use this for content that violates our guidelines. Reports go directly to our moderation queue and are reviewed by the team.

Option 2 — Email

For complaints about account decisions, privacy concerns, legal matters, or issues that cannot be reported through the interface:

hello@artrants.com

Please include:

— The URL or a clear description of the content or account concerned

— The category of your complaint (e.g. harassment, illegal content, account decision)

— The reason you believe this violates our guidelines or the law

— Your contact email address

The more specific you can be, the faster we can investigate.

Our Process

Every complaint we receive follows this process:

01
Acknowledgement — within 2 working days
We will acknowledge your complaint within 2 working days. You will receive a reference number and confirmation that your complaint is being reviewed.
02
Review
A member of our moderation team will review the complaint against our Community Guidelines and applicable law. For complex cases involving legal questions or multiple parties, we may need to gather additional context before reaching a decision.
03
Decision — within 10 working days
We will communicate our decision — including the action taken or the reason no action was taken — within 10 working days of acknowledgement. For straightforward reports this is typically faster. We will keep you informed if a complaint requires additional time.
04
Appeal — within 21 days of our decision
If you are unhappy with our decision, you can request an internal review by replying to our decision email within 21 days. A senior member of the team will conduct the review independently of the original decision.

Actions We Can Take

Depending on the outcome of our review, we may:

  • Remove content that violates our guidelines or applicable law
  • Issue a warning to the account responsible
  • Restrict an account temporarily
  • Permanently ban an account for serious or repeated violations
  • Refer content to law enforcement where we are legally required or it is appropriate to do so
  • Restore content or accounts that were removed or restricted incorrectly

We will inform the complainant of the outcome, within the limits of our privacy obligations to the account holder concerned.

Child Safety

Complaints involving content that is harmful to children, or that sexualises minors in any way, are treated as our highest priority. We will respond within 24 hours and take immediate action where required.

We report child sexual abuse material (CSAM) to the Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) and to law enforcement as required by law.

To report a child safety concern urgently:

Email hello@artrants.com

Subject line: URGENT — CHILD SAFETY

If you believe a child is in immediate danger, contact the police on 999 (UK) or your local emergency services.

Escalation to Ofcom

If you have completed our internal complaints process and remain unsatisfied, you may escalate your complaint to Ofcom, the UK's communications regulator and the regulator for online safety under the Online Safety Act 2023.

Ofcom: ofcom.org.uk/online-safety

Ofcom can investigate whether a regulated service has complied with its duties under the Online Safety Act 2023. Note that Ofcom does not resolve individual content disputes — it investigates systemic compliance by services.

You should contact Ofcom after completing our internal complaints process, including the appeal stage.

Privacy Complaints

For complaints about how we handle your personal data, you may contact the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO):

ICO: ico.org.uk

ICO helpline: 0303 123 1113

You should first raise a data privacy concern with us directly at hello@artrants.com before escalating to the ICO.

Transparency

We will publish an annual transparency report covering:

  • The number and categories of complaints received
  • The actions taken in response
  • The outcomes of internal appeals
  • Any referrals made to law enforcement or the IWF

This is in addition to any reporting obligations under the Online Safety Act 2023.
